I started coming to Get In Shape For Women in September 2009. I have lost over 25 pounds and over 9 inches. The Get In Shape For Women staff are all tough, but for good reason. They want you to achieve and succeed in reaching your goals. The trainers will push you the extra mile. When you think you can’t, they encourage you and tell you that you can. They give you all the tools you need to see life-changing results. The effort and success is all you.

The big component is “Accountability”. The staff continuously checks in with you to see how see how your nutrition is going and making sure you are recording it in your journal so you are staying on track. I have learned to control my eating and not to let eating control me. The staff is great at giving you tips to help speed up your results on the off days.

The best move I made in a long time was letting a friend bring me in to meet the Get In Shape For Women team. My experience with GISFW has been a life changing experience. GISFW is like a family. You have the staff and your fellow members for support to help push you to success.

After the age of 50, unwanted weight slowly crept up. Before I knew it, I had gained 15 unwanted pounds. At 55, I no longer fit into most of my clothes. I tried the gym but felt directionless. I didn’t know what worked and what didn’t and there was no one there to motivate and support me. Then I found “Get In Shape For Women”.

I have now lost all 15 of those unwanted pounds, and I am in the best shape of my life! My husband and friends are amazed. I am never hungry, even though my eating habits have changed significantly. Most important, are the health benefits. My cholesterol dropped from 235 to 190, LDL (bad cholesterol) is down from 120, and good cholesterol HDL, rose from a mediocre 56 to 72!! Triglycerides decreased from 85 to 51. These are the greatest benefits! Nutrition, support, and accountability are a part of the program and quickly become a part of your life. I still have to buy new clothes, but now they’re two sizes smaller!

Owners Jody and Toni, and personal trainer Sarah have been great motivators and there is a lot of member camaraderie and support. The staff always encourages me to keep going even when I don’t feel like working hard. I look forward to my personal training sessions and never miss a work out. I got to a point where I just had to do something about my weight. I was tired all the time and made excuses for not exercising. I saw an ad in the local paper about a place called Get in Shape for Women, and I went in to meet with the staff. Little did I know that this would change my way of dieting and exercising. GIS4W has taught me how to eat right. I would bring in my weekly nutrition plan that I kept and the staff would help me modify my eating habits. I have learned so much about adding good foods to my diet.

Since joining GIS4W in May of 09, I have gotten my self esteem back. I am not tired all the time and with all of the encouragement I received from my personal trainers I will stay on track to reach my goal. I have also made some lifelong friends. Young Mother Loses Post-Pregnancy
Weight In Less Than Four Months!

After having my children, finding time to work out was a challenge. I had gained a stubborn 20 pounds that just would not stay off. A friend of mine was getting results at Get In Shape, so perhaps I could too?

Get In Shape was an eye opener for me. I thought I knew what it took to be fit and healthy, but I didn’t. The staff taught me the key elements to overall fitness. Nutrition and exercise became a focus. They work well together, not alone. Once I made these changes and followed the program I really began to see results. I’ve lost 20 pounds and feel fantastic!

"I actually lost a few pounds by Christmas!"

My goal for joining Get In Shape For Women was not to lose a lot of weight, since I was already in a healthy weight range and I teach nutrition facts at my job. My goal was not to learn how to excercise. I have been lifting weights and running for 25 years. I had another goal.

Run the Boston Marathon.

I joined at one of the most difficult times of the year to keep to an excercise and diet regimen. The Monday after Thanksgiving. There were two reasons I chose that day. I didn't want all my healthy habits to go by the wayside during those holiday weeks. And, I was sidelined by a heel injury and I wanted to keep my fitness for the day I could run again. When I walked in the door and met Charles, I thought what could he make me do that would challenge me? Sorry I asked! He made me realize that I may have a good cardio base, but my muscles needed a little work (or maybe a lot). He got me stronger and fitter than I was in years!! Then I met Sam. She figured out what I needed to get back on the roads and ready to start my marathon training. And I actually lost a few pounds by Christmas!

The great thing about GISFW, is that they figure out what you need, based on your goals and make you realize just how much further you can push yourself. I always walked out of my cardio lessons with a smile on my face.

So, on April 19 I met my first goal - getting to the START of the Boston Marathon healthy and ready to run 26.2 mile. Second goal - run it in 3 hours and 40 minutes.

That's what I hoped for. What I accomplished - 3 hours, 33 minutes and 41 seconds. And a big smile on my face when I finished!!! And because of the weight training, healthy and ready for a year full of racing!

This has been an amazing journey…I have worked very hard on my relationship with food and am so excited by the changes in my health and wellness! My blood pressure is down to 115/60 and I no longer need to take high blood pressure medicine. And best of all, I’ve had to shop for all new clothes moving from a size 12 to a size 4!

When I walked into Get In Shape For Women last May, I didn’t know what to expect. I hadn’t been in a formal gym since ‘Gloria Stephens’ went out of business in the late 70’s. And I really wasn’t sure this is what I wanted either, but I had to do something. I was out of shape and overweight. I couldn’t even comfortably bend over to tie my sneakers.

I had tried several other programs – ‘Weight Watchers’ and ‘Jenny Craig’, as well as in-home tapes like ‘Lesslie Sansones’s walk at home’. While they each have their strengths, I never reached my goal. I either got bored or gave up.

With GISFM, I’ve never been bored and have yet to give up. The diet is easy to follow. In fact it has become a way of life, even if I slip, it is easy to get back on track.

And with the workouts and the support and guidance of my trainers, Pete and Sheila, I have seen incredible results. I have lost 32 pounds and 2 dress sizes. I still have more to lose to make my personal goal and I know that with the help of the great people at GISFM I will make it and finally learn the right way to keep it there. "I have been a member for 10 months at Get In Shape For Women in Reading. I think the format which sets this gym apart is that you have an appointment three times a week for your training. I never miss an appointment, whereas if I had joined a conventional gym I would have trouble motivating myself to go as often as I do. This concept really works. Gina, Thomaso and Derek are enthusiastic and will work with you individually to help meet your goals. With a small group of four exercising at once, you get lots of individual attention. I enjoy the comraderie with the other women you are exercising with. It makes the hour you spend at the gym go by so fast. I've almost reached my goal weight. It's great feeling of accomplishment. I have been an athlete all my life but after being in a car accident when I was nineteen I could no longer participate in the sports I loved. I had given up on the goal of ever being in shape like I was before the accident. A friend told me about a program she was participating in called Get in Shape for Women and how in just a few weeks she already felt it was working and that I should check it out. I stopped by and met Terri and after five minutes I had reserved my space for my personal workout with Terri to see if Get in Shape for Women was for me. After that first workout and meeting with Teri I joined Get in Shape for Women . That was about 4 months ago, 13 pounds, 11 inches and 2 dress sizes. Get in Shape for Women is making that goal I once had a reality. Going to Get in Shape has been one of the best decisions I have made. During my thirties I suffered quite a few losses and like many became an emotional eater. When I couldn’t control things in my life I would eat instead. As a result I would try different diets and takeoff weight but I would lose interest and gradually put the weight back on. I became the heaviest I’ve ever been. I decided in my forties I would regain control and take some time for myself. Get in Shape has provided me with experienced and knowledgeable trainers, nutritional plans as well as personal support. I feel constantly challenged and each week. The set appointment helps me to show up, knowing that the trainers are expecting me as well as a group of women I enjoy working out with. Mara, Doug and Rhonda always know how to push the limits and at the same time give you the confidence that you can do it. My energy has improved, I feel better, I have regained my competitive nature I once had and of course it’s always nice when people notice that I have lost weight. I have lost 16 pounds and 6.4% body fat to date. I know I could not have achieved this without the help and encouragement of the staff at Get In Shape. After years of being a competitive runner, I became unmotivated. The staff gave me the desire to want to push to get myself back into shape and be healthy. I am a busy stay-at-home mom of a three year old and an infant. After giving birth to my second child I was not happy with my weight. I made a commitment to myself that I would lose my pregnancy weight and then some; I still had 10 pounds to lose from my first child. At first I thought I would workout at home when my older child was in school or during morning naps, but I quickly found that I did not have the motivation to keep up with any routine, and other things kept coming up that would make me put exercising on the back burner. Realizing that I apparently did not have the motivation or personal accountability to reach my goals on my own, I looked to Get In Shape for Women to help.

One of the best features of Get In Shape is making appointments to workout. At first I wasn't sure how I was going to get there but, amazingly, I did. And, even when I wasn't wholly motivated to go workout, I still showed up because I made a commitment to myself and a commitment to the trainers to show up. I could no longer use the excuse of ,"I'll workout later," or "I'll do it tomorrow." I had others holding me accountable, and you know what? It was actually kind of fun.

I work out much harder than I would have if I were by myself; Kurt and John push me even when I don't really think I can do it. If it weren't for them, I probably would never have increased the weight! But, because of them, I can lift far more weight and push myself to do exercises that I couldn't have imagined doing beforehand. I feel great at the end of each workout and am proud of what I have accomplished. I see muscle tone in areas where I've never seen it before, and my clothes fit better than they did, even before I was pregnant. In my busy life of kids and family, it's nice that I can carve out a little time just for me to do something good for myself. I currently have just a few pounds left to go to meet my goal, and I'm guessing I'll probably exceed them thanks to Curt and John and Get In Shape for Women.

I heard about GISFW one day while listening to the radio. I was a bit skeptical about the program and what it offered. So I first check out the website and liked the concept of accountability, eating right and working with a trainer with a small group of women (1-4). I joined Get In Shape with little expectation in the program or myself. I put myself in the hole 60 pounds and had no hope on ever being able to lose it after countless yo-yo diets. However after my first workout, I knew Get In Shape was going to be the program that would help me lose the weight for good! I am 62 years old and during my 12 week body transformation program at Get In Shape For Women I have lost a total of 30 pounds and dropped four pant sizes! Not to mention that I have also been able to lose over 15 inches and 10% body fat. I will continue to tone up, perhaps lose more weight and most importantly learn the behaviors necessary for a healthy lifestyle. I have done the health club with “classes”, the diet groups with weekly weigh-ins, but I have never combined constantly modified weight training, weekly nutrition lessons and the knowledge and encouragement of such a well trained staff as here at Get In Shape For Women. The comments and atmosphere are always positive. Mike, Gina, and Jess acknowledge each milestone on our way to our goal. Clients’ names are displayed applauding each level of weight loss; though maybe a bit childish, it makes us all smile and push harder. We laugh and struggle with each other. This camaraderie is not found at larger gyms. Weight loss programs offer the applause but not the toning and firming. It’s all here. The trainers offer the do’s and don’t of both muscles and menus and the ratio of trainers to clients is 1 to 4 or less. This ensures that each member is properly instructed, encouraged, and shown the best workout for them including weight training, cardio and diet. I am very pleased with my program and will continue to Get In Shape!
