Get In Shape For Women was founded in 2006 by Brian Cook after 15 years of leadership in personal training and franchise sales. Brian’s intention was to create much more than a women’s gym. He wanted to create a complete fitness program for women, combining such activities as cardio and weight training for women with nutrition information for a healthy diet and accountability through personal trainers.
Brian knew from experience that a personal trainer has great value and knew that all members of Get In Shape For Women could get the results they've always wanted with the education and motivation provided by personal training. He developed a unique concept called Small Group Personal Training, where a personal trainer works with up to 4 women. And the most effective program ever for women's fitness, weight-loss and body transformation was created.
It has proven to have magnetic appeal to women. Click here to see our growing number of franchise locations.
The program, which has evolved into the four core elements, is scientifically proven to work:
It has enabled thousands of women to reach their fitness and weight-loss goals.
If you’re a woman who’s serious about achieving your fitness and weight-loss goals, call your local studio. Please remember, Get In Shape For Women does not accept everyone. You must have a measurable goal and be committed to reaching it, be coachable, and be ready to transform your body and your life. We want you to add to the culture of transformation that is created in each studio.
You’ll find yourself among women who are also dedicated to achieving their fitness and weight-loss goals. You’ll enjoy the camaraderie of your small training group, as well the inspiration you’ll get by being among all the other members and, of course, the attention and encouragement you’ll get from your personal trainer.

Brian started personal training in 1992 at Boston Health & Swim Club in Boston, MA. In 1995, at the age of 23, he opened one of the very first personal-training studios in Massachusetts, called In-Shape Fitness. By 1997, Brian owned and operated 3 personal training studios in Newton, MA. In 2001, Brian purchased a Master Franchise License to develop personal-training studios in the state of Massachusetts for a company called Fitness Together. He was the number one Franchise Developer nationwide for 5 years running and sold a total of 60 franchises. Brian himself owned and operated as many as 5 studios at a time.
Then he decided it was time to take on a new challenge – to develop the best fitness franchise concept in the industry. He took his 15 years of experience in personal training, 12 years of experience in studio operations, and 5 years of experience in franchise development and combined them to create his own unique franchise system. In January of 2006, Brian sold his Fitness Together Master franchise-development rights and his 2 remaining personal-training studios for $1,200,000. And, in May of the same year, he opened the first Get In Shape For Women studio in Bedford, MA.
The concept had immediate appeal to women. Due to the initial success of the first location, he opened two more corporate studios in Lexington, MA, and Winchester, MA, in September of 2007. After nearly a year of running the 3 GISFW corporate studios, Brian decided the concept was ready for rapid expansion. It was time to combine the passion of an owner with the systems and support of a franchise. So he began to sell franchises. He started close to home. In fact, in 2007 he sold his existing Winchester, MA, corporate studio, creating the first Get In Shape For Women franchise. As of October 2012, the franchise has grown into 100 Get In Shape For Women locations with another 25 in development. It continues rapid growth as America's favorite training program for women.
Brian has a Bachelor of Science degree in Exercise Physiology from Northeastern University in Boston, MA, and is pursuing his M.B.A. at Babson College in Wellesley, MA. Brian is married with 3 children.
